Todd Chrisley’s Lawyer Predicts Shorter Prison Sentences

Chrisley Knows Best alums Julie and Todd Chrisley’s attorney talked with People about their reduced prison sentences.

Initially, the 54-year-old Chrisley Knows Best patriarch and 50-year-old matriarch received a total prison sentence of 19 years. But now Todd will get released about two years sooner.

And Julie received a reduction of 14 months from her original seven-year sentence. However, the couple’s attorney Jay Surgent thinks that the couple could benefit from the upcoming “adoption of the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.”

Those guidelines will recommend reduced sentences for non-violent offenders. And though the lawyer couldn’t predict anything at this point, he thinks that Todd and Julie will benefit from additional reductions in their sentences.

And Surgent shared that he has begun working with the Department of Justice on Todd’s and Julie’s appeal.

As a result, he feels that the Chrisley Knows Best alums can hope for freedom. “There’s always hope,” he commented. “But I feel as though they have a strong appeal.”

“The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals can reverse the District Court,” revealed the attorney. “Or they could remand the case back for hearings that should have been held that were not held during the course of this trial. We argued very vigorously that their constitutional rights have been violated, and that they basically were not given a fair hearing. It’s all in black and white, actually.”

But the couple’s other lawyer admitted that challenges await. And Alex Little called it a “hard lift. But in this case, we’ve got, you know, real legitimate substantive arguments that we think, you know, if the court takes fairly, has a very good shot of winning.”

Chase Chrisley – Complains About Parents’ Prison

However, the couple’s son Chase Chrisley has shared that Todd currently struggles at Federal Prison Camp Pensacola.

Julie also faces a “terrible situation” at Federal Medical Center Lexington. But Chase shared that his parents try to cope.

“They’re hanging in there. It’s a terrible situation,” claimed Chase. “The conditions [of their prisons] are awful. And if you read all these headlines they say the polar opposite. But it is not the truth and we’re going to be spreading a lot of awareness to that as well.”

And the couple’s daughter Savannah, 26, clings to hope as well. “I know that they’re going through what they’re going through for us to make a difference, for us to make a change,” she declared. “Because whether this appeal works or not, they’re still coming out with a story.”
