Todd Chrisley Owes Big Money
The USA Network alum owes big money after defaming someone else’s name. A federal jury sided with a Department of Revenue investigator. Scorned reality star Todd Chrisley was accused of defaming her name. Now he owes her hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Todd and Julie Chrisley are currently serving prison time for tax evasion and fraud-related cases. DOR investigator Amy Doherty-Heinze claims that the former television reality star “began a social media campaign against the GDOR and certain of its employees, contending that the investigation was illegal and improperly motivated.”
According to the official court documents obtained by WSB-TV Atlanta 2, Chrisley “began attacking” Doherty-Heinze and “accusing her of a multitude of crimes and wrongdoing.”
On Thursday, April 4, the jury found that Chirsley was responsible for libel and slander. They awarded Doherty-Heinze compensatory damages of $350,000 plus punitive damages of $170,000. Including attorney’s fees, the amount totaled to $755,000 in damages.
Todd and Julie Chrisley were found guilty of bank fraud and tax evasion. The reality TV couple conspired the banks and the IRS out of millions of dollars they must also pay back.
Savannah Chrisley shared on her Unlocked podcast her hopes for her parents to be admitted out of jail by the summer. The couple is awaiting their April 15th appeal, which could reveal more about their future.
