Why Heidi Montag Wouldn’t Be the Right Fit for Real Housewives

The Hills was a cultural phenomenon from 2005 to 2010. And one of its most memorable moments came from the fallout between Heidi Montag and Lauren Conrad.
The painful exchange—Lauren telling Heidi, “I wanna forgive you, and I want to forget you”—resonated deeply with fans.
Fast forward to adulthood, and Montag has been vocal about her desire to join The Real Housewives franchise. Despite her reality TV background, Bravo has shown no interest in casting her, a rejection that seems to sting just as much as her past The Hills drama.
Heidi’s Push for The Real Housewives—and Andy Cohen’s Harsh Rejection
Heidi Montag, a self-proclaimed reality TV star, actively pursued a role on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (RHOBH). In 2011, she even tweeted Bravo’s Andy Cohen, pitching herself for the show.
However, Cohen’s response was brutal—he dismissed the idea, calling her “trash” on Watch What Happens Live. He even went as far as saying he’d rather stab knives into his own eyes than see her on the network.
Understandably, Heidi found his words unnecessary and offensive. Despite this, she continued advocating for her place in the Real Housewives universe, believing her current life as a mother of two made her an ideal fit for RHOBH or The Real Housewives of Orange County (RHOC).
“I think he’s so wrong,” Heidi told The Hollywood Reporter, suggesting that Cohen’s personal bias was the only thing keeping her off the show.
However, history has shown that Cohen’s instincts about casting are usually spot-on—just like when he predicted CNN’s decision to stop allowing on-air drinking during New Year’s Eve broadcasts.
Spencer Pratt’s Role: A Reality TV Villain Holding Heidi Back?
While Heidi fights for a comeback, her husband, Spencer Pratt, remains one of reality TV’s most controversial figures. Whether seen as a strategic anti-hero or an outright villain, Spencer’s reputation precedes him.
Over the years, his actions—including selling unflattering photos of Mary-Kate Olsen to In Touch in 2004—have left a lasting negative impression.
Lauren Conrad once famously described him as “a sucky person”, and that sentiment still lingers. Even though he recently gained some positive attention for covering the Pacific Palisades fires, many fans feel he continues to overshadow Heidi.
Spencer himself has acknowledged the Bravo snub, responding to a fan question about appearing on the network with a blunt “hard pass”. His influence on Heidi’s reality TV prospects raises the question: would she even get the chance to shine, or would he dominate the spotlight?
From Bravo to Hulu: The Next Chapter for Heidi and Spencer
Despite Bravo’s cold shoulder, Montag and Pratt’s fanbase remains loyal. In early 2025, after losing their Pacific Palisades home in the California wildfires, supporters rallied behind them, even helping boost Montag’s 2010 album Superficial to No. 1 on iTunes.
Some fans also launched a campaign to bring them back to television, suggesting Bravo give them their own show.
Cohen, however, has been clear about why he won’t cast them. On Andy Cohen Live, he stated, “I don’t know them. I didn’t watch Laguna Beach, so I don’t even have much institutional knowledge of them.” He also reiterated his stance that stars already heavily associated with another reality TV network—such as Heidi and Spencer from MTV—don’t fit into the Real Housewives formula.
Meanwhile, Spencer has taken a different approach to securing their next reality TV gig. Instead of Bravo, he’s been actively pitching a show to Hulu.
On TikTok, he urged fans to flood Hulu’s comments with support, claiming the streaming platform was the only one seriously considering a Heidi and Spencer show.
“If you want us to go dig up our house and rebuild on our old dirt, we’ll do that. I’ll do whatever show, but it’s Hulu,” he said.
Will We See Heidi Montag on Reality TV Again?
For now, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt remain in reality TV limbo. While their Bravo aspirations seem dead in the water, their efforts to court Hulu may lead to a different kind of comeback.
Whether they land a new show or not, one thing is certain—Heidi Montag isn’t giving up on staying in the public eye.
And if all else fails? Maybe The Hills reboot round two isn’t such a far-fetched idea.
