Some sad news in the music industry, as Brian Wilson, poet and founding member of the popular band, The Beach Boys, has passed away at the age of 82.
News broke via Wilson’s social media pages, which posted a photo of the beloved musician, with the following caption:
“We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved father, Brian Wilson, has passed away. We are at a loss for words right now. Please respect our privacy at this time as our family is grieving. We realize that we are sharing our grief with the world. Love & Mercy.
It’s important to note that the cause of death has not been provided yet.
Brian Wilson’s Legacy
Brian was the eldest and last surviving member of the three brothers who assembled the Beach Boys. He played bass, while Dennis Wilson was on drums, and Carl Wilson played lead guitar.
The group rose to fame in the ‘60s, a local California band that hit the mainstream with their timeless ditties about surf, sun, and sand.
The group was up there as one of the most popular bands of their time, with over 30 singles that hit the Top 40 when it came to global sales, reaching 100 million. In fact,
in 2003, Rolling Stone ranked their 1966 album, ‘Pet Sounds’, at the number two spot of the best 500 albums ever, losing to the Beatles’ ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, which grabbed the top spot. In 1988, The Beach Boys were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Wilson’s Later Years
Since 2024, Wilson had been under court-appointed conservatorship due to his dementia. This occurred after his wife, Melinda Wilson, passed away at the end of January in 2024.
She had been his primary caregiver up until then, and a judge appointed LeeAnn Hard and Jean Sievers co-conservators to oversee Wilson’s medical and personal care.
On behalf of everyone here, we offer our heartfelt condolences to Brian Wilson’s family, friends, peers, and fans during this challenging time.
