Cheers Star Kirstie Alley Dead At 71 After Recently Discovered Cancer

Cheers star, Kirstie Alley’s death was confirmed by her children Monday evening. Kirstie’s children proclaim, “As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother.”

Kirstie’s children, True and Lillie Parker, announced that the actor had died after a short battle with cancer. True and Lillie said in their statement to People:

“We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce, and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered. She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead.”

Kirstie’s children remember her passion for life that include her children, grandchildren, and her many animals. Their mother’s eternal joy of creating inspired them to live life much the way their mother did. True and Lillie also posted the following to Kirstie’s fans, “We thank you for your love and prayers and ask that you respect our privacy at this difficult time.”

Kirstie Alley’s – Career

Kirstie Alley was best known for her role as Rebecca Howe on “Cheers”. However, Kirstie also starred in “Drop Dead Gorgeous” as well as a trio of “Look Who’s Talking” movies. Kirstie starred in several other movies and tv shows and was a Jenny Craig spokesperson at one time as well. Kirstie earned a Golden Globe for best actress and an Emmy for outstanding lead actress for her part in the Boston-based series in 1991. Kirstie went on to receive her second Emmy win for her portrayal of Sally Goodson in David’s Mother in 1994.

Kirstie also starred in Veronica’s Closet (1997-2000), Fat Actress (2005), Kirstie (2013-2014), and Scream Queens (2015-2016). Some of Kirstie’s other film roles include Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982), Summer School (1987), It Takes Two (1995), and Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999).

Stars React To Kirstie Alley’s Passing

John Travolta, who played opposite Kirstie in the Look Who’s Talking trilogy posted, “Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had. I love you Kirstie, I know we will see each other again.”

Valerie Bertinelli posted, “Oh Kirstie, Rest in Peace.”

Jamie Lee Curtis, who starred with Alley in “Scream Queens” posted on Instagram: “I’ve just heard the sad news that Kirstie Alley has died. She was a great comic foil in @tvscreamqueens and a beautiful mama bear in her very real life. She helped me buy onesies for my family that year for Christmas. We agreed to disagree about some things but had a mutual respect and connection. Sad news.”

Days of Our Lives star, Jackee Harry posted the following, “Whether you agreed with her or not, Kirstie Alley was an undeniable talent who brought joy to many – through the screen and with her warm, hilarious spirit. RIP, luv. You were one of a kind.”

Many others have offered their condolences to Kirstie’s family as well. Kirstie will be missed by friends and fans alike.
