Dixie Lewis, Teenage Daughter Of Moneyball Author Michael Lewis, Dead After Car Crash

Dixie LewisDixie Lewis, the 19-year-old child of author Michael Lewis and photographer Tabitha Soren is dead after being involved in a head-on car collision on May 25. Dixie Lewis and her boyfriend, 20-year-old Ross Schultz, were pronounced dead at the scene. As police investigations continue, alcohol and drug use have been found as unlikely contributors to the accident.

According to Dixie Lewis’ family, their teenage daughter died with Ross Schultz in a car accident that took place on May 25 in Truckee, Calif.

“We loved her so much and are in a kind of pain none of us has experienced,” Lewis said in a statement. “She loved Ross, with whom she died. She loved to live and our hearts are so broken they can’t find the words to describe the feeling. Her mother, Tabitha, and I, and her brother Walker and sister Quinn are going to find ways for her memory to live in her absence.”

Ross was driving northbound on State Route 89 when his 2014 Ford Fusion entered the southbound lane and struck a Freightliner semi-truck head-on, the California Highway Patrol collision report obtained by E! News read. Both Ross and Dixie, who were in the passenger seat, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the semi-truck, identified by CHP as a 45-year-old male, only suffered minor injuries.

Dixie’s mother, photographer, and former journalist Tabitha Soren remembered her daughter as a fighter. “She had a fire in her that people could feel when she walked in the room,” she told the Chronicle. “She used her intensity to bring up everyone around her and she tried so hard at everything she did. When she showed up, she was going to show up 150 percent.”

Ross’s relation opened up to the Chronicle about the two young people’s relationship, calling them high school sweethearts.

Dixie graduated from Berkeley high school in 2020 and went on to attend Pomona College, where she reportedly intended to major in neuroscience and played on the softball team.

If it takes a village to raise a child, then it also takes a village to grieve one. And while no one can pretend to understand what the Lewis family is feeling at the moment, they’ve also shared their heartwarming words in honor of Dixie Lewis.

Her team shared a statement on their Instagram account, calling the late 19-year-old a “decorated athlete”. “This news saddens us all in the Sagehens family. Not only was Dixie a decorated athlete and impeccable student, but she was also an incredible human being. Dixie cared for each and every one of her teammates, doing her best to make connections with everyone during this difficult year. We will honor her memory every day, playing every game with Dixie in our hearts. All our thoughts and love are with the Lewis family during this tragic time.”

Dixie’s Pomona-Pitzer softball coach Joanne Ferguson wrote in a letter that the team was devastated by the news. “As an athlete, Dixie quickly drew our attention due to her talents on the field — but once she joined our team, it was her warm spirit, positive energy, and big smile that won our hearts,” Ferguson said. “Dixie made a lasting positive impact on our team this year, and she will forever be part of the Sagehen softball family.”

“She was like a role model to me even though we’re the same age,” Dixie’s friend Indigo Carlson said. “She just did everything she could to make me feel so happy. She put her own troubles and dilemmas aside and was just completely there for me.”

Meanwhile, Close Friends And Relations Of Ross Schultz, Also Shared Their Grief And Ross Schultz, ‘ Legacy With The Public.

“As mischievous and silly and always laughing and goofing around as he was, he had this whole other side to him simultaneously. He would just work and work and work to get what he wanted,” Thomas, Ross’ former soccer coach, said. “He always had a sparkle in his eye, but he was a fierce competitor.”

The Schultz family also added their own statement: “Ross loved his friends and he loved his family. And boy, did Ross love Dixie, who died with him.”

The community in Berkeley, California, is mourning the deaths of Dixie Lewis and her boyfriend Ross Schultz.
