Zack Estrin – Collapsed While Jogging

As confirmed to PEOPLE Magazine by his long-time talent agency WME, Estrin passed away on Friday, September 23 in Hermosa Beach, California. Deadline reports that Estrin died from a suspected cardiac arrest after collapsing while jogging on the beach. However, an exact cause of death won’t be announced until an official autopsy has been performed.

Zack Estrin – USC Scholarship Fund

Estrin leaves behind his wife, Kari Estrin; daughters Charlotte and Chloe Estrin; and his dogs Molly and Lt. Judy Hobbs. He is also survived by his, father Jonathan Estrin, mother Patricia Estrin, sister Amelia Burstyn, stepsisters Julie List and Laura Humphrey, and stepbrother Dylan Arrants.

The family requested in the place of flowers that mourners would instead make donations to the Zack Estrin USC Scholarship Fund in his honor.

Zack Estrin – Many Irons In The Fire

Born in Woodland, California, and raised in Brooklyn New York, Estrin later attended USC before beginning his career in film. From there, he went into a career in television, becoming a co-executive producer for WB Network’s “Charmed” and “Dawson’s Creek.”

Then Estrin moved over to work for Fox producing such memorable series as “Tru Calling” and “Prison Break.” He then went on to serve as executive producer for ABC’s “The River” and “The Whisperers” before going on an executive producing the network’s “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland.”

Estrin is perhaps most remembered for his work as executive producer and showrunner for Netflix’s reimagining of “Lost in Space.” According to Deadline, Estrin was developing new projects as part of his overall deal with Netflix prior to his untimely death.

Many Blessed To Have Known Him

Estrin’s family said in a statement that he was “our everything. The Best husband, father, son, and friend. He loved to make everyone happy. He loved to make everyone laugh.

“He loved being a writer/producer and being a part of creating these shows that people enjoyed. But above all, he loved his family and friends. Thank you all for being a part of his life and ours.”

Ari Greenburg, president of the WME agency remarked in his own statement that Estrin had been their client for 25 years. “He had a tremendously successful career and mentored so many writers.
