The Hollywood world is in absolute shock over the news of Matthew Perry’s death on Saturday evening. The actor, who was best known for his role as Chandler Bing on the hit sitcom Friends, died at the age of 54.

Friends Actor Matthew Perry Dies In Accidental Drowning At Age 54
TMZ was the first outlet to break the news. The actor apparently drowned and was found unresponsive in his jacuzzi. In a statement, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the actor’s death by sawing, “We responded to the 1800 block of Blue Sail Rd for a death investigation on a male [at] 4:10 pm this afternoon. He was in his 50s.”
As of press time, foul play is not believed to have been a factor in Matthew’s death.
Matthew Perry played Chandler Bing on Friends from 1994 to 2004. In an interview with the New York Times back in 2022, Matthew said that some of the most darkest moments he’s had in his life were also during the height of his fame with Friends.

Recalling the moment that he was sent to rehab soon after his character Chandler Bing married Monica Gellar (Courteney Cox) on Friends, he said, “[I was] at the height of my highest point in Friends, the highest point in my career, the iconic moment on the iconic show.
When you’re a drug addict, it’s all math. I wasn’t doing it to feel high or to feel good. I certainly wasn’t a partyer; I just wanted to sit on my couch, take five Vicodin and watch a movie. That was heaven for me. It no longer is.”

Many Friends fans commented on the actor’s death with, “Omg, poor Matthew. What a true and tragic life he seemed to have. I hope this was just a sad accident, and nothing nefarious happened to you,” along with,
“Chandler was my huge crush during friends era! I couldn’t wait for friends every week! I’m so sad to hear this. My condolences to all his family and loved ones. He was such a funny guy with a lot of demons.”

I watched this show faithfully and it seems surreal that he has passed away. He will sorely be missed by friends, colleagues, and the avid watchers of the mesmerizing Chandler. RIP Matthew.
