Paul Ritter, Harry Potter Actor Loses The Battle To Brain Tumor At 54

British actor, Paul Ritter who played the role of Eldred Worple in the sixth Hary Potter film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, has died at 54 after a short battle with a brain tumor. The actor’s agent confirmed his death in a statement on Tuesday. According to the agent, Ritter passed on Monday night in his house surrounded by his wife, Polly, and his kids, Frank and Noah.

“Paul was an exceptionally talented actor playing an enormous variety of roles on stage and screen with extraordinary skill,” the statement reads. “He was fiercely intelligent, kind, and very funny. We will miss him greatly.”

The actor was known for his versatility in the movie industry, going from playing the role of Anatoly Dyatlov, an unlucky nuclear scientist in Chernobyl to playing Martin Goodman, an eccentric patriarch in the TV series, Friday Night Dinner. The actor also featured in Quantum of Solace, a 007 film released in 2008.

Apart from his roles in movies and series, Ritter was also featured in several stage plays. He featured in All My Sons, The Audience, The Curious Incident of The Dog In The Night-Time, and Art, to name a few. His part in The Norman Conquests on Broadway earned him a nomination for a Tony Award in 2009.

Craig Mazin, who wrote the screenplay for Chernobyl, Robert Popper, the creator of Friday Night Dinner and Russell Tovey have all paid their tributes to Ritter. The trio described how versatile, talented, and wonderful Ritter was. Robert Popper who has been working with Ritter for over a decade sang the praises of the late actor. Popper said that he was quite saddened by Ritter’s death, stating the actor was “lovely, wonderful, kind, super caring and funny.”

Popper added that Ritter was the best actor he ever had the opportunity of working with. The actor and producer shared video footage of one of the scenes of Friday Night Dinner. He stated that the filming of the scene is one of his fondest memories of the late actor. Popper also appreciated fans who took the time to send condolence messages and he acknowledged the late actor’s family and wished them strength to bear the loss.

Mazin also had a lot of sweet things to say about Ritter. The screenwriter posted a tribute to the late actor on Twitter, describing him as “gentle, gracious and brilliant”. Mazin also wished the bereaved family ” peace and comfort” as they try to deal with the tragedy.

English actor, Russell Tovey, also paid a tribute to Ritter. He stated that Ritter was one of the greatest actors he ever met. Comedian and actor, Rob Delaney, also tweeted about how he felt when he watched Ritter in Chernobyl, comparing his role in the movie to how funny he was in Friday Night Dinner. Delaney ended the tweet with the words “Rest in Peace, Paul Ritter”.

Other celebrities including Stephen Mangan and Tim Gatt also tweeted about Ritter’s talent, warmness, and versatility.
