His Family’s Statement

Robert Duvall’s wife, Luciana, announced her husband’s passing in a Facebook post on Monday, February 16.

In the post she wrote, “Yesterday we said goodbye to my beloved husband, cherished friend, and one of the greatest actors of our time. Bob passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by love and comfort.”

She added, “To the world, he was an Academy Award-winning actor, a director, a storyteller. To me, he was simply everything. His passion for his craft was matched only by his deep love for characters, a great meal, and holding court.”

The caption also noted, “For each of his many roles, Bob gave everything to his characters and to the truth of the human spirit they represented. In doing so, he leaves something lasting and unforgettable to us all.”

Lucianna’s FB post concluded with, “Thank you for the years of support you showed Bob and for giving us this time and privacy to celebrate the memories he leaves behind.”

The family has asked for privacy, “… as they celebrate his memories.”

Robert Duvall’s Legacy

Duvall’s career spanned seventy years in the entertainment industry, with iconic roles withinThe Godfather and “The Godfather II”, as well as “The Natural”, “Apocalypse Now”, “Network”, and “The Conversation”, just to name a few.

Duvall even won an Oscar in the Best Actor category for his role in the 1983 film, “Tender Mercies” where he played a country music sensation. He was nominated a total of seven times for an Academy Award. His other Oscar nominated movies included “The Godfather”, in 1972; “Apocalypse Now” in 1979, “The Great Santini” in 1979, “The Apostle” in 1997, “A Civil Action” in 1998, and “The Judge” in 2014.
