Suzanne Somers, who is best known for her roles in “Three’s Company” and “Step By Step”, has died. According to PEOPLE, Suzanne died Sunday morning. Suzanne would have turned 77 on Monday.
Suzanne Somers Fought A Long Battle
“Suzanne Somers passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of October 15th. She survived an aggressive form of breast cancer for over 23 years,” R. Couri Hay, Suzanne’s long-time publicist shared on behalf of the family. “Suzanne was surrounded by her loving husband Alan, her son Bruce, and her immediate family.”
Hay’s statement continued, “Her family was gathered to celebrate her 77th birthday on October 16th. Instead, they will celebrate her extraordinary life, and want to thank her millions of fans and followers who loved her dearly.” Hay says a private family burial will happen this week and a memorial will be held in November.
Suzanne Somers Announced In July That Her Breast Cancer Returned
Fox News confirmed that Suzanne was fighting breast cancer for a second time. Suzanne was diagnosed with skin cancer in her 30s.
Later, in her 50s, Suzanne was first diagnosed with breast cancer. In July, Somers told Fox News Digital, “I have been living with cancer for decades now, using the best of alternative and conventional medicine to keep it at bay. Every time that little f—– pops up, I continue to bat it back. As one of millions of cancer patients, we do our best not to let this insidious disease control us. I find bliss in each day. My husband has been by my side every step of the way, and my family has been so supportive. Thank you for the outpouring of love and good wishes.”
Suzanne continued, “It’s a recurrence of my breast cancer. Like any cancer patient, when you get that dreaded, ‘It’s back,’ you get a pit in your stomach. Then I put on my battle gear and go to war. This is familiar battleground for me, and I’m very tough.”
Suzanne Somers Had An Impressive Career
Suzanne joined the cast of “Three’s Company” in 1977. In the fifth season of the show, Suzanne began to have issues with the show over her salary. ABC eventually fired Somers and she sued the network. Somers was also featured in Playboy in 1980 and 1984. Somers had originally posed for photos in 1970 but they weren’t posted until 1980.
Somers is also known for being the spokesperson of the Thighmaster, during the 1980s. Suzanne’s other best-known show was “Step by Step” with Patrick Duffy (Patrick Ewing, Dallas).
Somers later did a movie based on her biography and starred in her own talk show, titled “ Suzanne Somers” for six seasons. Somers had a very fulfilling career and starred in several guest appearances. Suzanne will be missed.
