The global pandemic that is the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) has changed life as we know it and for the British royal family, they are no different. Here are just five ways the monarchy will be forced to change some of their practices and protocols moving forward.

More Pressure On Prince William And Kate Middleton To Lead

Previous reports have indicated that the monarchy has already put more pressure to have Prince William and Kate Middleton to not only lead the royal family during the global pandemic but to also take on larger roles within the firm. With many of the senior members of the royal family forced in self-isolation because of the virus, Prince William and Kate Middleton might slowly, but surely become the next faces of the royal family and of course, the future of the monarchy.

There Will Be Less State Trips

If there was one very exciting aspect of being a fan of the British royal family, it was getting to witness history taking place with the royals and their state trips abroad. From Australia and New Zealand to Canada and even India, each and every time a member of the royal family visited one of these countries, you could feel the excitement in the air. However, with the coronavirus now grounding air travel, there’s a very good chance that it might be many months before the royals will be able to travel again.

There Will Be No Handshakes

They say that a handshake means everything but with the coronavirus limiting person-to-person contact, that won’t happen anytime soon. As a matter of fact, right before the coronavirus became a global pandemic, Prince Charles had actually caught himself a few times trying to shake someone’s hand only to pull it away at the last minute.

More Protection For Queen Elizabeth

It’s without a doubt that during her very long reign, Queen Elizabeth has witnessed a lot, experienced a lot, and has definitely made a lot of important decisions. However, she’s never faced such a crisis like a coronavirus outbreak, in which the invisible enemy has not only taken lives but forced millions of people from all over the world to shelter-in-place. With that said, there’s no doubt that Buckingham Palace will ensure that Queen Elizabeth is well protected and that her staff and handlers have been cleared by trusted health officials to make sure that Her Majesty is safe from the virus.

There Will Be Less Public Appearances Made By The Younger Royals

And by that, we mean the much younger royals: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Reports say that the three youngsters are being homeschooled by their mother, Kate Middleton, and that they might not return to their classrooms until the next school year.

In the meantime though, it’s very unlikely that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be allowing their children to participate in any royal engagements or public appearances, especially when the virus is still very much a threat. Watch this space as we have a feeling that there are plenty more changes to come for the British royal family as they try and navigate their new lives with the coronavirus restrictions.
