One of Princess Diana’s favorite automobiles has now been listed for sale, and guess what? The car has only done less than 25,000 miles.
Princess Diana’s Old Car Expected To Bring In Six Figures At the Auction
The late princess drove the Ford Escort RS Turbo – given a “stealth makeover” by the manufacturer – from 1985 to 1988.
The Auction House, Silverstone Auctions, Warwicks, is optimistic it will bring in six figures when it goes on sale on August 27.
A spokesman said: “We have sold a number of motorcars that have had a Royal pedigree but this car ticks every box in terms of history, rarity, condition and mileage
.
“The market adores early Ford RS models. When Royal cars come to auction they’re usually Rolls-Royces or Range Rovers so to offer the very best example of the working class hero’s sports hatchback with such provenance is perhaps unique and therefore very exciting.
“Isn’t it fascinating that the Escort RS Turbo was to be synonymous with the white stilettos of Essex but it’s first champion was the most glamorous woman on earth?”
Details About Princess Diana’s Ford Escort RS
The car runs at a top speed of 124mph and takes 8.2 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph. It consumes 32 miles per gallon and has a range of 335 miles. The original prize in 1985 was £8,495.

The listing description reads: “Whilst the Royal Mews provided a selection of Rolls-Royces and Daimlers, the late Diana, Princess of Wales far preferred to be at the wheel of her own car, albeit with a detective in the passenger seat, a member of The Royalty Protection Command SO14. Princess Diana was a city girl at heart and nipping to the shops or meeting girlfriends for lunch, at the wheel of her own car was perhaps seen as a welcome break away from the police outriders flanking an armoured Rolls-Royce, and the attention it drew.”
It continued: “Registered on the 23rd August 1985, this RS Turbo Series 1 and its famous driver were to be extensively photographed outside the boutiques of Chelsea and the restaurants of Kensington over the next few years. One press photo shows the future King, HRH Prince William, sat in the back with his mother smiling at the wheel.”
