“God Save the Queen” indeed!
Platinum Jubilee Numbers Surpasses Diamond Jubilee Numbers Despite Anti-Monarchy Campaigns
According to the Jubilee organizers, there’s been a total of 85,000 planned events that will commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee – over twenty one thousand above the number planned for the Diamond Jubilee a decade ago.
200,000 lunches will take place this Sunday, June 5. Outside the U.K., it’s been announced that around 600 lunches will be taking place throughout the Commonwealth of Nations and beyond.
The royals will be leading the way, with Prince Charles and Camilla, and the Earl and Countess of Wessex, all sitting down to tea and cake at community events.
The Big Jubilee Lunch Is One Of The Events Planned Over The Four-Day Bank Holiday Weekend.
Over 85,000 people have already registered their interest in holding a lunch, with more last minute bids set to arrive in the run up to the holiday. At this point, organizers are optimistic that the final number will smash their expectations.
The Big Jubilee Lunch is being organized by the Eden Project Big Lunch initiative, which is handling everything from the street parties that will likely break a world record to small party gatherings of one or two neighbors.
More than 600 international Big Jubilee Lunches are being planned across Canada, Brazil, New Zealand, Japan, South Africa, Switzerland and beyond.
Peter Stewart, executive director of the Eden Project, the creators of The Big Lunch, told the Daily Mail: “Despite hard copies running out, demand for our digital packs is pushing that number up, so we think our estimates of more than 12million joining in on the weekend is modest.
“That’s possible because of National Lottery support and the patronage of HRH Duchess of Cornwall, who has been behind us every step of the way.”
Mr. Stewart also stressed that the Lunch mustn’t be a formal one – even pulling up a chair and inviting a few neighbors over for cake checks the box.
