Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor took solid steps to challenge the validity of the search warrants that the Thames Valley Police used when he was arrested and questioned in February this year with regard to allegations of misconduct in public office. Read on for more details.
The Detention and Search
The detention of the former prince Andrew lasted a whole day and he was questioned after more information arrived about his association with Jeffrey Epstein. Police searches of the properties continued over six days.
He was suspected of leaking confidential government documents to Jeffrey Epstein while working as a special trade envoy.
The Case Seemed To Stall
Many people wondered why the case seems to have stalled, but it is still being investigated per Reuters. It’s not known what was seized during the police investigation at his old residence, Royal Lodge, or at Sandringham. But, the younger brother of King Charles is contesting the warrant that they used to search his property.

According to the BBC, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is challenging the search and the Thames Valley Police confirmed it faced a legal challenge over the search warrants: “There’ll be a court hearing on Thursday, during which the police will request that the judge keeps some documents private.”
A Historical Connection
The Express raised an interesting point about royalty and the courts, noting that “It is thought to be the first time a member of the Royal Family has challenged the lawfulness of criminal proceedings against them since the trial of Charles I in 1649.”
King Charles I also challenged the lawfulness of the proceedings against him, although unsuccessfully. He was ultimately executed. At the time, he argued that no court had the authority to try a reigning monarch.

The situation with Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is different as he’s not a king, but it’s an interesting bit of history for royal family watchers.
Legal Costs
As the case will take time, people might wonder how Andrew will pay for the legal costs. The Telegraph reported that King Charles won’t be footing the bill for it.
There were some reports that Andrew continues doing business in Europe despite being shuffled off to Marsh Farm where he’d be out of public view.
Viewers React
When ITV covered the court news on YouTube, viewers were able to weigh in with their thoughts.
One of them wrote, “Andrew is making a huge mistake, now they know exactly what they are looking for, the Police can find the same documents by other means, and a load more besides. Plus they will look at other charges.”
Here are a few more responses from the discussion:
- “Well if Andy’s done wrong get on and charge him or leave him alone.”
- “This is an odd one – people probably hate both sides.”
- “He is no longer a member of the Royal family. He deserves every legal action against him that is forthcoming.”
