According to a prominent royal journalist, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, is said to have used a letter to make a “mafia thug move” towards Princess Diana after learning about her engagement to Prince Charles.

CNN’s New Series “Diana” Opens Old Wounds

In footage from CNN’s new docuseries “Diana”, writer and broadcaster Bidisha Mamata detailed an “unbelievable” and “power move” action taken by Camilla when she found out about then-couple Charles and Diana’s plans to tie the knot.

She said: “Camilla Parker Bowles left Diana a note saying ‘Such exciting news. Love to see the engagement ring’.”

The Power Of Mean Girls

Ms. Mamata said the letter appeared more like a “power move” than a genuine feeling and likened it to the gimmicks of lead character Regina George from the 2004 film Mean Girls.

“That’s like a real mafia thug move. That’s so Mean Girls it’s unbelievable,” she told CNN. “That’s a power move right there.”

Jennie Bond, former BBC royal correspondent, explained that the note appears to be what put fractures in the marriage from the outset. Ms. Bond said: “In Diana’s own words, she told me any marriage Prince Charles might have made could never be as strong as the relationship he had with Camilla.”

“And that’s what she was battling with from the outset,” Jennie Bond added.

The Prince of Wales and Diana dated for six months before he popped the big question in the nursery at Windsor Castle on 3 February 1981.

The pair officially disclosed their engagement during an exclusive interview on 24 February 1981.

Charles And Camilla’s History

Charles’ much talked and speculated connection with Camilla dated back to 10 years before that, when they met for the first time at a polo match at Windsor Great Park in 1970.

They dated for six months after this first encounter, but called it off when Charles left to serve in the Royal Navy – where he spent an extended period of time away from the United Kingdom.

By the time he returned, Camilla was already engaged to Andrew Parker Bowles. Their love affair was reignited a few years later when Charles was yet married to Diana.

During a chat with biographer Andrew Morton, which was captured on tape, the late Princess of Wales recalled storming in on the pair and telling them of her knowledge of their affair at a party in 1989.

“I know what’s going on between you and Charles, and I just want you to know that.”The popular and highly covered royal couple would go on to divorce in 1992, five years before Diana’s tragic car accident in Paris.

Prince Charles, 72, and Camilla, 74, finally tied the knot in a civil ceremony at Windsor Guildhall on 9 April 2005.
