Camilla Parker-Bowles Advised On Her Future Title As Queen Consort

A royal expert opened up about the awkwardness and insensitivity of Camilla Parker-Bowles using the title of Queen soon after the passing of Queen Elizabeth the II and Prince Charles’ ascension to the throne.

Even though an announcement made in 2005 made it clear that she would not claim the title of Queen once her husband ascends the throne, recent reports seem to imply that she might. On that head, a royal commentator has advised her to wait a “suitable gap” before announcing her future title.

Camilla Warned Against Claiming Queen Title Soon After Queen Elizabeth’s Death

Ahead of her wedding to Prince Charles in 2005, Clarence House announced that Camilla will only be known as Princess Consort when her husband ascends the throne. However, it’s been recently circulating that she is planning on taking the more regal title of Queen Consort.

Speaking to the Express.co.uk, royal photographer and biographer Ian Lloyd said: “Whether she chooses to call herself that is another matter, the only thing that we have is that statement in 2005 that she would be Princess Consort.

“I think it would be regrettable if she wasn’t Queen, the problem is calling her the Queen immediately after the present Queen’s regin has ended would be awkward I think.

“I think that previous Queen Consort’s have felt the same, if you succeed immediately after the death of a Queen – it just seems insensitive.”

The author then suggested to Camilla about the measures she should take to honor her predecessor and to keep herself from incurring the people’s rage.

“Firstly, I would wait for a suitable gap to put the announcement, say from the moment of the coronation which would be approximately a year after Charles succeeds to the throne, that then she would be known as Her Majesty the Queen.”

Expert Urges Queen To Publicly Support Camilla

Mr. Lloyd also advised the Queen to publicly endorse Camilla, as it would be beneficial to the Duchess when she secures her future position.

“I think secondly, I think it would be very useful for the present Queen to issue a statement saying that she values the work that Camilla has done and that she hopes that she would succeed her as Queen.”

“Not an order or instruction, nothing formal but a suggestion to put it out there so that it’s set up ready.”

In 2018, the Queen, 95, endorsed her eldest child Prince Charles, 72, to become the next Head of the Commonwealth by lobbying world leaders on his behalf at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

The future king and Camilla tied the knot in a private ceremony at Windsor Guildhall in April 2005. The couple first dated during the 1970s, but went on to marry other partners.

After remaining close friends for several years, the pair began an extra-marital affair during the 1980s which was exposed during Charles and Diana’s marriage breakdown.

Following the separation of the prince and princess of Wales, Camilla’s popularity in the U.K. suffered. It took an even deeper plunge when Diana died. This led to her being frequently targeted by the media.

To improve Camilla’s image, Charles hired a public relations executive to help rehabilitate her image.
