Even republicans, those who wish to abolish the monarchy, begrudgingly give the queen her due as a dutiful servant who has spent nearly 70 years tirelessly serving the country without complaint. Some of her kids (Andrew) and grandkids (Harry) are another story for another time.
So it is heartening news that today it was announced that Her Majesty, “has been given the go-ahead by doctors to throw her annual private pre-festive season party for extended family members for the first time since 2019,” according to the Daily Mail.
Royal Family News – The Queen Has Been Cleared to Party
Since early fall the monarch has forbidden to engage in official public duties and doctors have ordered the Queen to perform only light desk duties following an unexplained health scare that necessitated an overnight hospital stay. The exact reason for the stay has never been given and later she missed Remembrance Sunday with a “strained back,” said to be unrelated to her previous issue. The palace has said that her medical maladies are not related to COVID.
One holiday celebration will be held at Windsor Castle and one party will be at her Sandringham Estate in Norfolk. That location is the family’s traditional gathering place for Christmas. On Christmas Eve presents are opened and the next morning the family attends church.
Royal Family News – The Queen Will Celebrate At Sandringham
Before she takes a helicopter to Sandringham she will record her annual Christmas message at Windsor. She will no doubt mention her husband the Duke of Edinburgh who died aged 99 this year, plus recognize the tremendous show of community support throughout the ongoing Covid pandemic.
The Mail indicated that, “palace aides are also exploring options for the monarch to appear in public over the next two weeks to wish the country a very happy Christmas.”

The outlet states that, “The hope is that the Queen will be well enough to take part in a short public engagement in the castle grounds. Her appearance will be seen as a ‘small shot of joy’ in difficult times.”
All of the queen’s recent meetings have been behind palace walls, including in-person and virtual audiences with various dignitaries, foreign ambassadors, and the Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
