Cold And Calculated: Meghan’s ‘Heartbreaking’ Letter To Dad Was “Part Of Media Strategy

As those who have been keeping up with all things Meghan Markle knows, the duchess and her father are on the outs. For apparently quite some time, Meghan Markle has not had any dealings with her estranged dad, Thomas Markle, 76. Some believe this is due to attempts by Thomas Markle to cash in on his daughter’s rising popularity and fame (and subsequent wealth). Others, however, have accused Meghan Markle of essentially throwing everyone who ever knew her before her rise to global, household familiarity, under the proverbial bus.

For example, fierce Sussex critic, Piers Morgan has hit out at Meghan Markle over her treatment of her own family. As Mr. Morgan Tweeted, “People say I’m too critical of Meghan Markle – but she ditched her family, ditched her Dad, ditched most of her old friends, split Prince Harry from Prince William and has now split him from the Royal Family.”

Now, some are reporting that Meghan’s behavior is that of a cold and calculating individual, with her much-publicized (with a court battle now raging because of it) letter to Thomas Markle merely a prop in the duchess’s overall media strategy.

Meghan Talked The Letter Over With PR People

Interestingly, according to media reports, Meghan took the letter she had written to her father and showed it to PR representatives of Kensington Palace before sending it. Evidently, Meghan Markle’s intention had nothing to do with actually reaching out to her father for herself. The entire intent behind sending the missive had to do with pushing a specific public relations strategy.

Of course, Meghan Markle’s behavior behind the scenes wasn’t supposed to come out in the open. When it became apparent that Meghan couldn’t hide her intentions any longer, the claim has now been made that she and Prince Harry recruited Omid Scobie (their personal cheerleader) to write “Finding Freedom” along with Carolyn Durand to put a positive spin on her actions.

It should be noted, however, that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry officially deny any involvement in the writing of Omid Scobie’s book.

Meghan’s Court Battle Isn’t Over

Many know that Meghan Markle sued the British parent company of the tabloids responsible for publishing the letter she’d written to her father.

The battle has turned ugly, with both Meghan Markle and the defendant, Associated Newspapers running up immense legal fees. In fact, the fees have become so high that the judge in the case, Francesca Kaye, has stated flatly that they were “excessive.”

According to reports, Meghan Markle’s overall fees have come to £1.8million. Meanwhile, the British media company has spent in excess of £1.2million.

There have also been a series of successive back-and-forths between lawyers for Meghan Markle and Associated Newspapers. For example, the media company’s lawyers have argued along the lines that since Omid Scobie’s book, “Finding Freedom” also published portions of Meghan’s letter to her father then it was perfectly okay for them to have done so too.

In other words, the publishers believe that Meghan Markle wanted the letter to be viewed by the public. Indeed, if it’s true that Meghan’s letter to her father was really part of an overall PR campaign, then the lawyers for the publisher can’t be far wrong.
