British royal family news reveals that the House of Windsor is sitting pretty for decades to come, with King Charles on the throne, his son Prince William next in line, and after William his son, Prince George.
And yet, there is a nagging question that royal fans must confront—is there another Prince Harry lurking in the shadows?
The line of succession is set in stone but Prince Harry and Meghan Markle showed the world what happens when the boat is rocked. Still, Harry was the spare to the heir so the loss is minimal in more ways than one. Let’s take a look at the line of succession for any possible ruptures.
Prince George Will One Day Take Over
There is no doubt that Prince William steps up to his duty when the time comes. Prince George is 11-years-old and he has already said that if he were not tabbed to be king he might like being a chef.
Why can’t he do both? Because when royals engage in non-royal activities these extracurricular activities are still connected to the crown, such as military roles. William served as a rescue helicopter pilot in the armed forces and it’s likely George will, too.
Prince William and Prince George Succeed King Charles
George’s siblings, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six, are next in line to the throne and it’s plausible that they could follow in Harry’s footsteps and choose a distinctly different lifestyle—but it’s not likely.
Neither have shown the sullen inclination to opposition that Harry did from a young age. The Wales kids are well-adjusted and cared for.
Prince Harry’s Oppositional Defiance
Forging a new life away from the palace rarely succeeds—nor is it given oxygen to do so. Queen Elizabeth’s youngest son, Prince Edward, bailed from the Marines early to engage in the creative arts– theatre and television.
But he made a dreadful mistake with a cringe reality TV game show called The Grand Knockout Tournament. After this Edward was consigned to a role in the royal fold according to ABC.
Edward’s wife Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh tried running her PR business after their marriage but in an interview made “disparaging comments and embarrassing claims” which forced her back into the Firm.
Princess Catherine’s Shining Example
Princess Catherine has tried and succeeded with a different tack, channeling her passion for developmental psychology into research projects and initiatives that study the early childhood years.
Royal expert Christopher Wilson believes that “William will need the service and support of all his children in the coming years to rebuild faith in the institution.”
Therefore it’s doubtful that George will become the next Roy Choi or sell jam in the mall.
“George, Charlotte and Louis have been born to the job for life. And if they did peel off unexpectedly as Harry has done, William and Kate have the experience to handle the problem” Wilson says.
Rest assured royal fans, the crown rests easy.
