British royal family news reveals that the New Year is full of medical drama for the royal family. On Wednesday January 17, it was announced that both King Charles and Princess Kate will be absent from royal duties until further notice due to medical issues.

Kensington Palace stating that Katherine, the Princess of Wales had undergone abdominal surgery and would remain in the hospital for the 10-14 days.

The announcement began: “Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales was admitted to hospital yesterday for planned abdominal surgery.

The surgery was successful and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery. Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.”

The announcement recognized that great interest will ensue regarding this issue however “The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private.”

The palace added that it will “only provide updates on Her Royal Highness’ progress when there is significant new information to share.”

Kate was last seen in public on Christmas Day. It’s understood that her husband William, Prince of Wales will suspend his public duties to remain by her side and help care for their three young children, George, Charlotte and Louis.

Minutes after this announcement Buckingham Palace issued a missive on King Charles’ health.

They stated: “In common with thousands of men each year, The King has sought treatment for an enlarged prostate. His Majesty’s condition is benign and he will attend hospital next week for a corrective procedure. The King’s public engagements will be postponed for a short period of recuperation.”

It was reported that the King breached the usual royal protocol about health issues in order to encourage other men to be checked accordingly.

According to CTV News “Buckingham Palace said Charles’ condition was benign, he would be having a corrective procedure and his engagements will be postponed for a short period of recuperation.”
