To show their appreciation, many members of the Royal Family joined a Zoom call in order to talk with nurses from around the world. The royals have made dozens of video calls in the coronavirus era, but this one was different.
Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, and Sophie, the Countess of Wessex came together to break new ground
Royal watchers were quick to notice that Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, and Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, were together on many of the calls in the video montage.
ABC News royal contributor Omid Scobie (who co-wrote Meghan and Harry’s bio, Finding Freedom) took it upon himself to talk about the overlooked friendship between these two ladies.
Omid Scobie Discussed The Tandem Of Sophie And Kate
Speaking on his HeirPod, Scobie said, “We saw Kate and Sophie team together on one call. That’s the first time we’ve really seen them together on an engagement. Speaking to nurses in seven of the Commonwealth countries, it showed a bit of their friendship as well.”
“They were joking themselves about homeschooling amid the more serious questions they had about COVID-19. It was a nice break from what we had seen.”
“Everyone’s struggle at the moment is how to keep Zoom calls interesting. It sort of has the same feeling after a while. So to keep that content engaging and interesting, especially for such an important day, it was a smart move.”
The Royal Ladies Showed A Very Human Side During Their Calls
Not only were the ladies making a joint appearance, but they also bantered back and forth a bit which delighted those on the call. For instance, when one nurse said that his ex-wife is a teacher, which is a big helping with homeschooling in the lockdown, Sophie joked that he should “be careful” because his former spouse was “about to be recruited.”
This led Kate to laugh and say that she wants the former spouse to “come and help” her tutor her own children, George and Charlotte.
Where Are The Royals During A Lockdown?
At the moment the Cambridges are isolating in their Norfolk estate while Sophie and her husband Prince Edward and their children are hunkered down in their Bagshot Park residence just outside of London. The Queen and Prince Philip are currently staying at Windsor Castle.
