Prince William And Kate Middleton Don’t Usually Break Protocol
That’s why some royal fans were surprised to hear that Prince William might have broken one of Queen Elizabeth’s very important rules during a recent engagement. Here’s what you need to know.
During Prince William and Kate Middleton’s visit to Cumbria, they chatted with some local farmers. Reporters who were with the royals say that the Duke of Cambridge then asked the farmers if they were worried about a “no deal” for Brexit. While Prince William didn’t offer his own opinion on the topic, he did listen to what the farmers had to say.
Some people said that it would be “absolutely dire” for their futures while one farmer told the prince, “The worst case scenario is a real black hole that a lot of farmers would struggle to get through.”
Prince William Talks Politics With Farmers
And while this isn’t technically breaking royal protocol, many royal fans are raising an eyebrow over the fact that William even mentioned Brexit in the first place. While there’s no doubt that the younger royals are definitely paying attention to what is going on in British politics, they are typically not supposed to bring it up in public or in conversation during their royal engagements and appearances.
The official royal website says: “As Head of State, the Queen Elizabeth has to remain strictly neutral with respect to political matters, unable to vote or stand for election. However, Her Majesty does have important ceremonial and formal roles in relation to the government of the UK.”
So far Buckingham Palace has not made any comments about Prince William’s Brexit conversation although it’s doubtful that anything will be said at this point. But for some fans, they like the fact that the future King of England is paying attention and more importantly, wanting to know what the public has to say.
