According to him, the late, former Princess of Wales had a “disaster” on her wedding day back in 1981. Here’s everything to know about Diana’s bad, no good day, that one where she married the future king who would go on to rule with his mistress!

August 31, 2024 marked the 27th anniversary of Diana’s death following a car crash in Paris. She was a young mother of two, just 36 years old, when tragedy struck.

Dalton was Diana’s former hairdresser, and you know what they say about telling all to one’s hairdresser. Dalton worked with Diana for a decade, and he has fond memories of the blond bombshell.

He told People: “As a loyal subject to the royal family, I never shared anything publicly until now to protect her. I am 76 years old, [the] same age as [King] Charles, and I wanted to document my real story. [It’s] not a hairdresser’s job to kiss and tell. Now I feel comfortable — 27 years have passed, and nothing in my book is detrimental to Diana’s character. Just wonderful memories.”

Ironically, Dalton did not style Diana’s hair on her big day–July 29, 1981. That task was given to his colleague, Kevin Shanley.

Still, Dalton did Diana’s hair countless times “everywhere from airplane bathrooms to over the kitchen sink at his own home!”

Princess Diana apparently liked to experiment with her hair but according to Dalton, both he and Diana found her wedding day hairstyle “a disaster.”

He said that the late Diana shared with him her regret about her hair, and wished she could do it over again to “get the hair right.” Maybe she should have wished for the marriage to be right

Royal Family News – Diana’s Wedding Day Fiasco

Dalton remembers one particularly good look, the time he styled her hair in Thailand. On that day in 1988, Princess Diana was at the Imperial Hotel in Bangkok and Dalton searched high and low for orchids to put in her hair.

He recalls “Whatever I saw, I took — and nobody stopped me. Eventually, I got all the colors I wanted to use — they represented Thailand and also matched her dress.”
“Fresh flowers had never been done before, and she looked sensational that night — and she knew it.”

Dalton says that Diana was witty, a good mom, and committed to royal work. But he also saw a woman who suffered from “intensely low self-esteem during the valleys of her marriage to the future King Charles, which ultimately ended in a 1992 separation.”

On bad days “sparks would be flying off the hair dryer” he jokes in his book. It turns out that the two had more in common than you might think. When he did her hair for the last time, Dalton says she “was going through a really rough stage of her life with Charles and wanted a fresh staff and could tell I wanted my life back. She said, ‘I think [you want] your freedom back’ — and it was mutual. I didn’t realize how much pressure I was under until I left.”
