British Royal Family news and updates reveals Meghan Markle has faced a setback regarding her trademark, as reports indicate a misstep. The Duchess of Sussex did not sign the necessary documents for her application for ‘As Ever’.
The Trademark Office Took Issue
The Trademark Office has reportedly informed her that she needs to clarify what she means by “various items,” which includes “spoons for serving jams and fruit preserves.”
Additionally, she must list all goods and services according to their international class number. The duchess also neglected to sign the document, which, as stated by the Daily Mail, means it won’t be “properly verified.”
In his column, Richard Eden noted, “Interestingly, Meghan made the same error—failing to sign the document—when she attempted to trademark ‘The Tig,’ the name of her former lifestyle blog.
She made the same mistakes again with ‘Archetypes,’ the title she selected for her brief Spotify podcast.”
The Dutchess Renamed Her Company After Encountering Trademark Issues
After facing trademark challenges with her original venture, American Riviera Orchard, the duchess decided to rename her business.
The initial proposal was rebranded after Harry & David, a well-known American company with annual sales of £1.7 billion and the trademark “Royal Riviera,” contested her application.
Meghan introduced her new venture, As Ever, with a website that features a picture of her holding hands with her daughter, Lilibet.
To announce the new name, Meghan shared a video shot in the Sussexes’ garden in Montecito, which includes a brief moment with Prince Harry. He can be heard saying, “It’s recording,” as he hands her the phone.
The Rebrand Cat’s Out Of The Bag
Dressed in a white linen shirt and blue jeans, the Duchess told her followers, “The cat’s out of the bag- I’m surprised we’ve kept this a secret for so long.” The rebranding occurred only two weeks prior to the debut of Meghan’s Netflix series, “With Love, Meghan,” on March 4. She expressed her excitement in the announcement, saying, “In two weeks, my show is launching, and I’m thrilled about it; there’s also been a lot of interest in my business.”
The partnership with Netflix goes beyond her show, as the streaming service is now also a business ally for As Ever. “Netflix joined not only as my show partner but also as a partner in my business, which is a significant development,” the duchess shared.
Meghan Explained Her Rebranding Decision
Meghan shared her reasons for the rebranding, stating, “Last year, I thought ‘American Riviera’ was a fantastic name. It represents my neighborhood and is a nickname for Santa Barbara, but it restricted me to only products made or grown in this area;” the new name holds more significance for her. “‘As Ever’ means as it has always been, and if you’ve been with me since 2014 with The Tig, you know I have a passion.
Cooking, crafting, and gardening – that’s what I love to do,” she explained. The rebranding has already encountered issues, including a plagiarism conflict in Spain and with a vintage clothing designer in New York.
