Meghan Markle has only been a full-time London resident for a few short months now, yet some fans think that her accent has changed.
As a matter of fact, the Duchess of Sussex sounds less and less like the California girl that she used to be and more like a regal member of the royal family. There are some royal critics who believe that Meghan might have taken elocution lessons behind the scenes at Buckingham Palace. That’s because she apparently sounds more “regal” in a recent royal documentary about Queen Elizabeth’s life and her contributions to the Commonwealth.
Some viewers noted that during the documentary, Meghan sounded much “softer” and that she also sounds like she is losing her American accent. One person wrote on social media, “Meghan has had voice coaching, she seems much softer, bit like how Kate’s changed too.

For experts, this doesn’t come as a surprise at all. Former royal editor Duncan Larcombe believes that Meghan might have been helped with breathing exercises and offered advice on what to say during royal engagements and documentaries. But at the same time Duncan believes that Meghan wants to hold on to her American accent as much as she wants to hold on to her roots.
He told Elle UK in an interview, “This is not a surprise because the Duchess of Cambridge has had advice on similar aspects of public speaking however, it is a little different in Meghan’s case. The Duchess very keen to preserve her American accent, and has no desire to start talking and sounding like she was born and bred in upper crust English circles.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot in lavish ceremony at Windsor Castle back in May. In the meantime, let us know what you think by dropping us a line with your thoughts in our comments section below.
