Yay! Wedding presents for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle! Of course, fans of the British royal family know that it’s customary for the ruling monarch to gift their children with amazing presents when they marry.
For example, Queen Elizabeth gave Prince William and Kate Middleton a $2 Million dollar estate known as Anmer Hall, which is located on the royal family’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk. Now, this wasn’t just some newly done mansion, mind you … Prince William and Kate’s gift was originally built in 1802 and has 10 bedrooms, a tennis court, a swimming pool, and a great deal of private land.
Prince Harry & Meghan Markle: Frogmore Cottage In Windsor
Likewise, fans know that the Queen chose to do something similar for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding when she gifted them Frogmore Cottage in Windsor. Now, Frogmore Cottage is a year older than Anmer Hall and was built in 1801. According to historical records, Frogmore Cottage was a retreat for Queen Charlotte and her daughters while they were unmarried back in the 1840s. While the grounds aren’t nearly as large as those at Prince William’s home, Prince Harry and Meghan’s place still boasts beautiful, picturesque landscape gardens.
One would think that most people would be utterly blown away by such generosity from the Queen of England (even if she is your family), but some believe that Harry and Meghan’s choice to leave Great Britain behind for Los Angeles was something of a slap in the face. Although Prince Harry and Meghan have said time and again that they will repay the Crown for the cost of refurbishing Frogmore Cottage, which was done to bring the place up to more modern standards, they still won’t be using it for much.
Now, Buckingham Palace hasn’t taken the home away from Prince Harry and Meghan. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex plan to hold on to the real estate so that they can reportedly, “always have a place to call home” when visiting the U.K. Yet, the truth is that Prince Harry and Meghan apparently plan to make the U.S.A. their home for the long-term.
British Royal Family News: Meghan Markle & Prince Harry’s Big Move
Fans of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have watched as the couple struggled to find their footing as a married couple in the U.K. and as they eventually decided to move through the process that’s come to be known as “Megxit.” Leaving England behind, Prince Harry and Meghan took their pet dogs, and their son Archie and moved to Vancouver Island in Canada. From there, they made their way to Los Angeles where they are currently living in the home of Meghan Markle’s friend, movie mogul, Tyler Perry.

Meghan and Harry have been seen scouting out property in Malibu, which has homes listed in the $15 Million price range. How they will be able to afford those prices sans a Royal income is anybody’s guess. However, some believe that Meghan will likely head back into the film industry and Harry may try to work with some prestigious charity or another.
The bottom line is that while some feel Harry and Meghan’s choice to ditch Frogmore Cottage for a mansion in Malibu is a bit pretentious on the face of it, it could also simply be that there was no insult intended and the couple simply had to do what was best for them.
