Historic Plans Revealed For King Charles’ Star-Studded Concert Celebrating His Coronation

Last year was a wild one for the British people and royal fans everywhere. The dust of the milestone four-day Platinum Jubilee weekend was just settling when the news of the Queen’s death rocked the world.

Granted there were three months in between the Jubilee celebrations and her death, but then again, the celebration was so epic it was still fresh in the minds of all who took part in it.

Buckingham Palace Releases Statement Detailing King Charles’ Coronation Plans

Some of the pomp and pageantry of the Queen’s 1953 coronation will sadly not make it into Charles’ 2023 coronation. Instead, the King has decided to make the day focus on diversity, representation and togetherness.

The coronation events will kick off on May 6 and conclude on May 8. On Saturday, January 21, Buckingham Palace released a statement to say that the three day celebration will include a star-studded public concert at Windsor Castle that will be broadcast live on BBC.

Free pairs of tickets will be open to the public via national ballet. Apart from the ballot system, tickets will also be made available to members of the public who have made immense contributions to their community and members of the charities which the King and Queen Consort supports.

His Majesty King Charles the III wants to commemorate the end of his mother’s reign and the beginning of his with “ceremonial, celebratory and community events.”

“Their Majesties The King and The Queen Consort hope the Coronation Weekend will provide an opportunity to spend time and celebrate with friends, families and communities across the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth,” Buckingham Palace shared in the release. “Their Majesties are looking forward to marking the occasion with the public throughout 2023.”

Apart from the coronation itself, the highlight of the 3-day weekend, which will see thousands of people traveling to London for the occasion, is The Coronation Concert.

The BBC and BBC Studios have won the rights to a live broadcast of the concert, set to take place on Windsor Castle’s East Lawn. It will feature an incredible line-up of “global music icons and contemporary stars”, who will be performing alongside world-class orchestra and dancers.

2000 guests will be expected at the Windsor Castle party, in contrast to the Queen’s 8000 Buckingham Palace jubilee party guests.
