Pegged the “world’s stupidest sport,” Harry and Meghan’s ‘Polo’ series is yet to hit any kind of commercial success. Some complain that it’s more of a reality TV show than a sports documentary, but the one notable thing about the series is that Harry, though a keen ‘Polo’ player, made very little appearance in the series.
And not just that, the 40-year-old Duke is yet to promote the show in any kind of way, even though Nick Ede believes this is the show that may decide whether they continue to enjoy Netflix’s money well into the future.
This has led some to speculations that Harry is keeping his distance from ‘Polo,’ which he executive produced alongside his wife Meghan Markle, because he knows it’s a dud.
Hollywood Expert Claims ‘Polo’s Lack of Promotion Raises An Eyebrow
‘Polo’ is out and Harry and Meghan, the show’s executive producers, have got no interviews and TV appearances lined up that could help bring the news to more audiences.
Speaking on the lackluster response to Netflix’s Polo from critics, fans, and even the show’s executive producers, Sean McNulty, producer, writer, and the founder of the Hollywood newsletter The Wakeup, told The Daily Beast, “This one hasn’t been on my radar at all this week, which maybe says it all right there.”
The absence of scheduled press activities and proper media coverage from trade magazines could hint at something deeper, McNulty opined.
He said: “The lack of a proper, visible press campaign for a series from Harry & Meghan raises an eyebrow to say the least.”
Netflix’s other specials from high profile celebrities like Sabrina Carpenter and Jamie Foxx seems to have drawn away some of the attention that ‘Polo’ may have enjoyed.
Even though Harry and Meghan have no social media channels, they have often promoted things via their friends’ own.
This time around, even their close friend Nacho Figueras, who plays ‘Polo’ on a competitive level and features on the show, generally kept the show’s promotion on the minimal.
People Wanted To Stay Away From Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Latest Failure
Marketing expert and writer Tony Case talked about the reason everyone kept quiet about ‘Polo.’
He told The Daily Beast, “The critics have universally slammed the show. Harry and Meghan are box office poison. Of course everyone is running away from it, in every direction, so to as to not pick up the stench of this colossal bomb.”
He continued, “From a brand perspective, I’m not really sure anything can be done at this point to reverse consumers’ obvious apathy toward the Sussexes. They set out to conquer America, but nobody here, it turned out, found them or what they’re peddling to be particularly compelling.”
