According to Junor, speaking to People Magazine, both Kate Middleton and the Duke of Edinburgh have something in common. What in the world do Prince William’s wife and Queen Elizabeth’s husband have in common?
Junor says that Kate Middleton is, “a bit like Prince Philip supporting the Queen,” in her relationship with William who one day will be king.
In the same way that Prince Philip takes a back seat to Elizabeth, Kate is careful not to “outshine” Prince William even though she does so without forfeiting her voice.
Kate Still Has A Lot To Say According To One Royal Biographer
Junor goes on to say that Kate has not ditched her own opinion and voice to be in service to her husband but she minds her p’s and q’s so as not to be an overwhelming presence when she and William are performing public duties.
Junor speculates that the future queen consort may be aware that this became a point of contention between her in-laws, with Diana seemingly eclipsing Charles when they were in public.
Is Kate Trying To Sidestep The Issues That Doomed Prince Charles And Princess Diana?
Nonetheless, some would say that stunning and statuesque Diana simply could not help but outshine Charles when they were performing royal engagements together. Even if she tried to fade into the background, the cameras as well as the public loved her and demanded her presence.
“I think that Kate is a bit like Prince Philip supporting the Queen,” said Junor. “She doesn’t outshine William, but still has a lot to say herself.”
Yet another royal watcher, Sarah Gristwood, expanded on this perspective commenting that, Kate is a “supportive figure,” to Prince William.
For her part, the Duchess of Cambridge’s returned to face to face royal duties with a visit to a Norfolk garden center soon after William resumed his duties.
During the visit, she shared that she and William have been making grocery shopping trips recently but have mainly remained at home with their children, Prince George, six, Princess Charlotte, five, and Prince Louis, two.
Kate And William Are Traditional Contemporaries
Gristwood added, “In one sense hers and William’s was a modern royal marriage, in that it was a love match. But in another, it has been old-fashioned. She mostly appears as a supportive figure to her husband.”
