As history and Harry have shown, royal spares tend to follow a pattern of self-loathing acted out in outrageous, scandalous ways. His uncle Prince Andrew is a perfect example.

Here’s a look at how royal families around the world are trying hard to avoid their own version of Prince Harry the Royal Traitor mucking up their fairytale lives.

Royal Family News: The House of Grimaldi

In Monaco Prince Albert is the heir and his sisters Princess Caroline and Princess Stephanie are the spares.

In her younger days Princess Stephanie was an infamous spare, marrying a circus performer and even joining the big top herself.

Somehow that makes Harry’s naked Vegas pool boy antics sound tame in comparison. These days the former hellion who hung out with Rob Lowe back in the day is a doting mom who has stayed out of the spotlight.

Royal News: Netherlands Royalty

In the Netherlands Catharina-Amalia is the heir and her sister Alexia is the spare. The latter just turned 18 and is the second child of Queen Maxima and King Willem-Alexander.

She recently had her first solo royal engagement when she christened the Vox Alexia, a Dutch vessel named for her.

According tot he Daily Mail the teen “looked poised and professional throughout” the event. Afterward she gave a tour of the ship and chatted to the crew.

In May Alexia graduated from UWC Atlantic College in South Wales, the school known as “Hippie Hogwarts thanks to its progressive approach to education and picturesque castle setting.”

Royal Family News: Swedish Royalty

In Sweden, Prince Carl Philip holds the unique positions of both heir and spare. He is married to the gorgeous Princess Sofia and recently attended the State Opening of Parliament in Stockholm.

His father, Carl Gustaf, King of Sweden, stated that it “wasn’t fair that his daughter was made to heir-to-the-throne when a change in succession laws happened in 1980 – stripping his son of his position as King in waiting.”

He is referring to Crown Princess Victoria who was a child when the new law was introduced, stating that the eldest child, regardless of gender, will inherit the throne.

So far the dethroned prince has handled his demotion well, but we can’t say for sure if he has been to Vegas for a little acting out.

Royal Family News: The Spanish Royal Family

Lastly, over in Spain, Queen Letizia and King Felipe have two daughters, teen Princesses Leonor and Sofia, both of whom have equally shared the spotlight so far, with no indication whatsoever of heir vs. spare drama. Give them time?
