By the by, on the afternoon of Thursday September 8, the world lost one of the greatest figures it’s ever known. The news of her death literally sent shockwaves outwards into the world and people’s reactions were immense. It was hard to believe that one of the constants in the world was no more. I mean, who would the cat go and look at when it goes to London these days?
Here’s what someone close to her during her finals days has to say about those days.
The Queen’s Closeness To Her Faith Remained Until Her Death
Five days before she died, Queen Elizabeth reflected on the life she’s lived and told friends that she had no regrets.
Rt Rev Dr Iain Greenshields, moderator of the Church of Scotland, stayed at Balmoral the week of her death.
During a chat with ABC News in the US, he shared that the Queen’s dependence on her Christian beliefs was fundamental to her reign.
He continued: “She said right at the beginning of her time when she was becoming Queen that she was going to ask God for wisdom.
“And that’s something which persisted throughout her life. When I was chatting to her about her faith she said she had no regrets at all.”
“She had power but she used it in a way that was beneficial to others by serving her country and by doing it so well.”
The Queen’s Medical Aide Reveals She Showed No Sign She Was Facing Her Final Days
Anyway, what would anyone expect? Her Majesty died peacefully at her Balmoral estate after spending the summer with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Speaking on the Queen’s health during her final days, Dr. Greenshields said that there were no warning signs.
He added: “It seemed just astonishing that the woman who had been so vital, so alive, so engaging, should be all of a sudden, dead and away from us.
“She was 96. And you could see her fragility. But as soon as she started talking, a very different kind of person emerged.
““I was staying in the Tower Rooms and she said, ‘Your Queen is sending you to the Tower!’
“And she just smiled at me as she said that — she made sure that I understood that I got the joke rather than it being too serious.”
