And that means nannies and other staff must refer to Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis by their individual names. But the Duchess of Cambridge’s nanny, Maria Borrallo, and royal family expert Louise Herren also shared other traditions that Kate does not follow. For instance, some nannies use the term “naughty steps” to punish children.

But just like the word “kids,” Kate’s nannies don’t get to use that term. And Louise summed up the reason quite simply. Those bans result from “a mark of respect for the children as individuals,” she explained. But in contrast, the Cambridge family does occasionally use sticker charts to reward a child.

For instance, housekeeping positions at Kate’s and William’s home in London get advertised with details about the guidelines. Posts describe prospective employees as needing to agree to “maintaining confidentiality and exercising discretion.”
