Kate Middleton’s Looks And Princess Diana’s Are A Product Of Distinct Eras
From the Royal Ascot this month to her flowing white dress during the Trooping of Colour and many others, the media’s representation of Kate’s fashion, regardless of color, pattern and fabric, almost undoubtedly leads back to “channeling Diana” or paying Diana “homage”.
But one royal expert believes it does Kate a lot of disservice to compare her every dots, dashes and stripes to Diana’s. “For years, fashion editors have dined out on flagging replica attire,” Victoria Arbiter wrote, “but short of having a bible dedicated to Diana’s every whim, I suspect Kate has better things to do than pore over the Internet in search of her next ‘ode’.”
“Nonetheless, whether she’s clad in tweed, tartan or taupe, the seemingly endless comparisons are unlikely to abate. That said, implying Kate’s every pick is little more than a nod to William’s mum does her a terrible disservice.”
Arbiter continued, explaining that the years standing between them mean that both have “distinct” looks “and each utilised their working wardrobes to help shape their public image.”
“Arguably considered one of the greatest style icons of the 20th century, Diana, Princess of Wales was unafraid to take risks. Able to effectively communicate through her clothes, she adapted her fashion to suit her high-profile role and she frequently used her choices to send a powerful message.”
Contrary to Diana’s style, Kate’s style is said to be “timeless”, even though her style could be likened to a reincarnation of age-old classics.
