British royal family news reveals that the royals are just like us in many ways. While the majority of us will never dwell in a castle, marriage and children are social conventions that the royals have in common with us commoners.
As if we needed another reason to love Catherine, Princess of Wales her habit of hanging on to certain of her kids’ possessions shows that she’s just like every other proud mom around across the globe. Keep reading to find out what Kate can’t bear to part with when it comes to her children!
Kate Middleton Keeps Her Kids’ Clothes
Kate ad her husband Prince William share three beautiful children: Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6. The kids have been photographed in everything from dress attire to shorts and tees, and apparently Kate has a fondness for her little ones’ clothing.
Kate was at a Corgi textile factory, which specializes in knitwear and handmade socks, in South Wales last week when she talked about what she does with the items her kids grow out of: she “archives” them.
According to Hello! Kate keeps the pieces that “wore really well.” She said “It’s so lovely to reuse the things that are well made.”
Besides hanging on to her favorite items, Kate has engaged in the age old tradition of passing down her kids’ clothes to their cousins.
Kate Middleton is a Proud Mom
For example, she has gifted some clothing to her brother, James Middleton’s, son Inigo, 1. In fact James’ little one has a whole closet full of clothes passed down to him.
James wrote in his 2024 memoir Meet Ella: The Dog Who Saved My Life: “We are an affectionate and close-knit family and there are lots of hugs and laughter. Catherine and Pippa bring two big suitcases of hand-me-down clothes, so Inigo’s cupboards are full of sweet little outfits his cousins—even the girls—have worn.”
James Middleton Appreciates Kate’s Thriftiness
James told Hello! that the clothes sharing is a warm tradition that help his two sisters “remember when their child was wearing something, and how old they were—it takes them back. It’s been a lovely thing for them.”
Kate’s kids have also been recipients of hand me downs, with Louis wearing his father’s sailor suit to Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.
Kate Recycles Clothes
Kate herself has recycled her favorite clothing items over the years. Most recently she wore an old $20 Zara dress during a visit to a children’s hospice in Wales. And she looked like a million dollars doing so!
