Kate Middleton & Prince William Take Budget Flight Amid Meghan Markle, Prince Harry’s ‘Private Jet’ Backlash

On Thursday, Aug. 22, Kate Middleton and Prince William flew to Scotland to join Queen Elizabeth at Balmoral Castle for their traditional summer retreat. The royal couple brought their three little kids along and were spotted getting off a budget FlyBe flight.

The Cambridges’ appearance on the cheap commercial flight not only surprised regular passengers–it also drew a comparison to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who are getting slammed for taking four private flights in 11 days this month.

Just Like An Ordinary Family

According to the Daily Mail, Prince William and his family chose to fly commercially since it was only a short flight from Norwich to Aberdeen. The Cambridges did it very clandestinely, and even Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis behaved very well that no one even noticed they were on the flight.

“They just seemed like a family traveling together, to be honest,” a passenger narrated. “No one saw them get on the plane either…I couldn’t believe my eyes. You don’t expect to see royalty on a budget airliner.”

This wasn’t the first time for Kate Middleton and Prince William to fly via FlyBe, a budget airline. A representative told E! News that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have flown with them before.

“We were delighted to welcome the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their family onboard one of our flights again, this time when they flew from Norwich to Aberdeen with our franchise partner Eastern Airways,” the official said.

As simple as their choice of transportation was, Prince William and Kate Middleton also looked like ordinary parents taking their kids on a trip when they landed. The royal couple was seen carrying their own bags at the airport and was very hands-on with their children.

Kate Middleton and Prince Williams’ £73 Flight vs. Prince Harry & Meghan Markle’s £20,000 Jet

Prince William and Kate Middleton’s trip to Aberdeen cost around only £73 per person, or about $89. This is a stark contrast to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s travel expense, as hiring a Cessna plane cost around £20,000 or $25,000. Some pointed out that the Cambridges’ move might be a deliberate blow against the Sussexes, especially since rumors of a feud between Kate and Meghan won’t die down.

Despite the backlash, many celebrities have come to Prince Harry and Meghan’s defense and noted that the royal couple chose to fly via private planes for security purposes.
