The first-ever joint outing occurred on Wednesday when they stepped out for a visit to the London headquarters of the Royal College of Midwives and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Both Anne and Kate are patrons of the organization.

Good things Come In Pairs

Kate is a mother of three young children, and Anne has two adult children. During the event the women heard about how the RCM and RCOG are working in tandem to enhance maternal healthcare, with the goal of providing, “the safest and best care possible at one of the most significant times in their lives.” According to People, Kate suffered from severe morning sickness during her three pregnancies.

Kate the Duchess of Cambridge has championed early childhood development for the last few years and recently launched an ambitious early years initiative informed by her own experiences as a mother.

While at the meeting Kate and Anne participated in a dialogue with experts and new moms. The topic was on the goal of erasing inequalities in maternity care. They also talked with representatives from Tommy’s National Centre for Maternity Improvement and learned more about the latest methods being used to identify and support women with high-risk pregnancies.

They also talked with representatives of the Avoiding Brain Injury in Childbirth (ABC) partnership. The collaborative group addresses the safety of fetal wellbeing during labor.

In 2020, Kate shared information about her own child birthing experiences, disclosing that she used “hypnobirthing” for her deliveries. She experienced hyperemesis gravidarum, a severe form of morning sickness, with each of her pregnancies and she educated herself about the condition.

Kate said on the Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast in 2020: “I got very bad morning sickness, so I’m not the happiest of pregnant people.” Her first son Prince George was born on July 22, 2013, her daughter Princess Charlotte arrived on May 2, 2015 and her youngest son Prince Louis was born on April 23, 2018.

According to Kate, her research taught her that she would have done things differently had she known certain things during her own pregnancies.

“I feel huge responsibility because what I’ve learned over the last few years is so fascinating and I definitely would have done things differently, even during my pregnancy, than I would have done now,” she said.
