Also this month her younger brother, James Middleton, released his book Meet Ella: The Dog Who Saved My Life. He has been praised for his honesty and homespun humor and we have a few heartwarming examples of his recollection of royal life.
James Middleton – Is Kate’s Middleton’s Younger Brother
James’ book was excerpted in the Daily Mail and they shared James’ warm memories of the late Queen Elizabeth.
According to James, he and the regent bonded over their love of canines. In his book he reminisced about the monarch allowing him to bring his cocker spaniel Ella to Sandringham.
Royal Family News – Queen Elizabeth Was A Dog Lover
James recalls that during his first visit to the royal residence the late queen asked him “Did you get my message, James? Ella is welcome to stay in your room.” Ella’s puppies, Tilly and Zulu, were also given permission to stay at Sandringham.
Dogs will be dogs, and it seems that Ella misbehaved on at least one occasion when she slipped out of his room and made her way into the kitchen of all places. On that occasion James didn’t close his bedroom door and a footman informed him that his pooch was sniffing around the kitchen.
Queen Elizabeth’s Warmth
James didn’t think that Queen Elizabeth knew about Ella’s misadventure but she told him “I hear Ella had a nice little wander round earlier.” James worried he was in trouble but he knew he was Scot-free when the monarch “gave me a conspiratorial smile.”
James Middleton also wrote about spending Christmas at Sandringham, noting that “Beatrice and Eugenie, whom I knew from school, would be there and we’d all go to church in the morning.”
In another instance James remembered doing a jigsaw puzzle with Queen Elizabeth.
He wrote that “It was the sort of activity I’d have enjoyed with my own grandparents, all four of whom had died in the space of three years when I was a teenager. So in a way, I felt the Queen was filling a granny-sized void in my life.”
Proving that he had the queen’s approval, James and the queen exchanged Christmas gifts. According to James he was gifted a pair of socks and he gave the queen an Ella card and honey.
Like King Charles, James is a beekeeper and he wrote: “Hives are highly organised communities presided over by a queen bee. So a jar of honey, a gift from a queen to the Queen, seemed fitting.”
Royal Family News – Queen Elizabeth Was Like A Grandmother With James
It’s been two years since the queen’s passing but it’s anecdotes like James’ that keep her memory alive.
After Queen Elizabeth died in September 2022, James honored her in a special way by posting a wedding photo of the Queen and her late husband Prince Philip on Instagram on the anniversary of his wedding to Alizee Thevenet.
At the time he wrote: “Today is our 1st wedding anniversary however it doesn’t seem right to celebrate while mourning the loss of Queen Elizabeth II. Instead I’m sharing a photo of the marriage of the Queen & the Duke of Edinburgh on their wedding 74 years ago. To my darling Alizee I look forward to sharing as many with you in our lifetime.”
