Kate Middleton’s Brother Reveals Secret Battle With Depression

James Middleton, Kate Middleton’s younger brother, recently made his Instagram public–and his feed is filled with amazing posts! There are photos of him and his dogs, luxurious vacations, and wild adventures. But while he may appear to be living a privileged lifestyle, James Middleton has been hiding a devastating secret in private.

Last week, the 31-year-old penned an article for the Daily Mail revealing his battle with depression and mental health issues. In James’ emotional essay, he described his condition as a “cancer of the mind.” He admitted to feeling like a complete failure, worthless, and “going crazy.”

“Each night sleep eluded me. A cacophony of imaginary noises rang in my head. It felt as if ten different radio stations were competing for airtime and the din was ceaseless and wearying,” James wrote.

According to James, his bouts of depression started in 2016. But it would take him at least a year before trying to seek professional help. By the end of 2017, Kate’s brother packed his belongings into a car and drove to a remote part of UK’s Lake District without telling anyone. The solitary retreat was the start of this realization that he needed to change things.

Apart from depression, James has also been diagnosed with Attention Deficiency Disorder (ADD) and he has been suffering from dyslexia since he was a child. He attributes these mental health disorders as to why he had difficulty with his studies as a student, and later on, his failed business attempts.

Currently, James Middleton says he is dedicated to speaking out about mental health awareness. He and his pet dog are now volunteering for Pets As Therapy charity.

While James admitted that he isolated himself from his family during his days of torment, he credits his current recovery to his sister Kate. The Duchess of Cambridge, along with Prince William and Prince Harry, is an active advocate of mental health charities.

“I feel compelled to talk about it openly because this is precisely what my brother-in-law Prince William, my sister Catherine and Prince Harry are advocating through their mental health charity…They are my motivation for doing so.” James explained.
