British royal family news divulges that King Charles and his wife Queen Camilla received a warm welcome today as they toured the Colosseum and Roman Forum on the second day of their state visit. This is Charles’ 18th official visit to Italy, and his first overseas trip in 2025.
Late last year he and Camilla toured Australia during which time he chose to forego his cancer treatments, which began in January 2025.
Charles and Camilla Enjoy Italy
Charles and Camilla joined Italian President Sergio Mattarella at the Quirinale Palace where they watched the British Red Arrows and Italian Frecce Tricolori aerobatic teams fly past in a joint maneuver.
Britain quit the European Union in 2020 and this visit is believed to be part of a wider initiative in which London seeks to dilute the socioeconomic pain of Brexit.
According to Reuters, “U.S. President Donald Trump’s move to impose sweeping tariffs on imports from around the world, while simultaneously questioning Washington’s military commitment to Europe, has underscored the need for old European partners to continue to work together.”
King Charles Wants to Soothe Hurts
A group of children waved British flags as Charles and Camilla approached the forum and Italian television personality Alberto Angela guided the king and queen during their glimpse of the forum.
The host waxed poetic about the structure’s place in history and during their first full day in Rome the royal couple laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Is Charles Overdoing It?
Just last week Charles was admitted to the hospital for a brief stay due to an adverse reaction to his cancer treatment.
Now Charles is in Italy and due to meet Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Wednesday followed by an address to parliament.
Charles and Camilla also mark their 20th wedding anniversary on Wednesday and that evening they are guests of honor at a state banquet hosted by Mattarella at his Quirinale residence.
Tell us royal fans, do you think that Charles is doing too much right now?
Even Camilla has reportedly been upset with his reluctance to slow down—what do you think of the monarch’s busy schedule?
