King Charles and Queen Camilla’s arrival in Jersey might not have gone exactly to plan – remember the wind and rain? – but it might have taken an even deeper turn when their visit to an outdoor Expo in Jersey was cut short due to a security concern.
King Charles And Queen Camilla Taken To Hotel Following Security Issues
The King and Queen were pulled out of a public outing early due to security concerns as they viewed farm animals and fresh produce at Weighbridge Place, St Helier. At the afternoon event, they were shown cows and honey.
Even though many came out to welcome them to the event, their security soon made the call to pull them from it and instead make the short journey to nearby hotel, Pomme d’Or.
Camilla was reportedly eating ice cream when a security detail whispered something to her and she and her husband were soon leaving.
They stayed at the hotel until their security ascertained that the threat was not real.
After an investigation proved that the disturbance was a false alarm, they were brought back and the tour kicked off again after every precaution had been taken.
Their majesties’ arrival to the island was marked by a 21-gun salute from Jersey’s 1781 Militia at People’s Park. They were then presented with gifts including seven Jersey cows and locally-laid duck eggs.
They also greeted the Islanders who came out to meet them through the wind and rain, with 11-year-old Carmen thanking them for coming and causing excitement within the local people.
“Thank you for coming, you made everyone really happy and I see smiles everywhere,” she gushed.
The couple stayed on the island overnight before moving on to Guernsey, marking the first time a British monarch has slept on the island in more than 350 years.
This is coming after Buckingham Palace reported that King Charles and Queen Camilla have cut New Zealand from their upcoming tour.
They will only be visiting Australia and Samoa this autumn due to the medical team advising the 75-year-old monarch against going on an extensive tour.
