A gunman opened fire at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on the weekend, and that might make royal family fans wonder if King Charles will still visit the USA. Read on to find out.
The Shooting
FOX News reported that the suspect, Cole Allen, stormed the hotel lobby with a shotgun, handgun, and multiple knives. Fortunately, Secret Service agents took him down before he reached the ballroom. Only one Secret Service officer was hurt, but thanks to his bulletproof vest, is expected to recover.
The outlet also reported that Allen had “a disassembled long gun” and may have exploited major security lapses. Apparently, they included unchecked luggage and unmonitored access between hotel floors.
Charles Still Visits The USA?
An updated report by the outlet on YouTube reported that Buckingham Palace confirmed King Charles’ state visit to the U.S. will “proceed as planned” despite security concerns after the shooting.

Notably, King Charles privately reached out to the President. President Trump spoke on “The Sunday Briefing” and said the king is “a great guy” and “a friend of mine for a long time.” Trump added, “He represents his nation like nobody else can do it.”
Other Reactions
Meanwhile, other world leaders also reacted to the scary incident. The British Prime Minister posted on X, saying, “I am shocked by the scenes at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner overnight. Any attack on democratic institutions or on the freedom of the press must be condemned in the strongest possible terms.”
Then, France’s President Emmanuel Macron wrote on X that the attack was “unacceptable” and said, “Violence has no place in a democracy. I extend my full support to Donald Trump.”

The video also noted that messages also came in from Italy, India, Spain, and many other places. In the comments section, plenty of people went to have their say as well. Of course, some of them seemed a bit divided about the King visiting stateside.
One of them penned, “I think King Charles should not travel .. unless he is protected by UK secret service personnel..obviously there are issues with security in the US.”
Here are a few more responses from the discussion:
- Big deal how much is that costing me?
- He should just stay home. He’s nothing like his mother.
- Tell Charlie boy to stay overseas. We have nothing to discuss. If you’re coming anyway, take Harry with you when you leave.
- Welcome to a visit to the USA, King Charles and wife Camilla.
