British royal family news divulges that royal pundits believe King Charles is itching to modernize the monarchy by cutting down on the number of working royals. This scenario sounds good on paper, but would it work in reality?
Royal Family News – Charles In Charge
Many royal watchers, including Jennie Bond, think that abandoning the idea of a so-called “slimmed down monarchy” could backfire on the monarch, even though it would result in taxpayers paying less to support the royal family.
In recent times however, the monarchy has lost several working royals and the strategy may have serious flaws.
Royal Family News – There Are Fewer Working Royals
In recent years the family has lost Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip to death, Prince Andrew to scandal, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to greed.
This has left a hole in the fabric of the monarchy, with those remaining having to take up more of the work burden. This includes Prince William and Princess Kate as well as Prince Edward and his wife Sophie.
Royal Family News – Will king Charles Minimize the Monarchy?
Due to the high rate of attrition among senior royals, pundits have speculated that King Charles could enlist the help of Andrew’s daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. They were given the HRH title at birth and have been involved in various charities.
Additionally, Beatrice is a Counsellor of State, meaning she can represent the King as needed due to on absence or illness.

However, Bond believes that involving Eugenie or Beatrice would be a bad move for the monarchy and told OK! Magazine: “I think it would be a backwards step for King Charles to change his ideas about a slimmed-down monarchy.”
“It’s true that the number of working Royals has reduced naturally, because of Andrew, Harry and Meghan and, as the Princess Royal acknowledged, they are now pretty thin on the ground. But I think the King’s concept of a small, efficient core of working royals is in tune with public opinion.”
She added that including Lady Louise Windsor, the daughter of Prince Edward and Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, would not be helpful: “The same goes for Lady Louise Windsor, and I don’t think a royal role for her has ever been part of the game plan.”
Bond added that Charles should stick with his original game plan and not incur more cost for the taxpayer. Tell us what you think King Charles should do royal fans!
