Kristen Stewart Stars As Princess Diana In New Film

The Twilight franchise star Kristen Stewart has been tapped to play Princess Diana in an upcoming movie called, “Spencer.” According to Deadline, Steven Knight wrote the script to be directed by Pablo Larraín with film production set for early 2021.

According to Larraín, the movie won’t cover Diana’s tragic death, it will revolve around her tumultuous marriage to Prince Charles and her motherhood role to Prince William and Prince Harry.

The director praised his star as, “one of the great actors around today. To do this well, you need something very important in the film, which is a mystery. Kristin can be many things, and she can be very mysterious and very fragile and ultimately very strong as well, which is what we need.”

He called Stewart a, “force of nature,” and said that the way in which she responded to the script and the character, “it’s very beautiful to see. I think she’s going to do something stunning and intriguing at the same time.”

What Will The New Film About Princess Diana Be About?

The film will reenact one weekend in the early 1990s when Diana decided her marriage to Prince Charles was over and she should step away from her role as a member of the royal family. It occurs during the Christmas holiday which took place at Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, England.

Larraín added that “Diana is such a powerful icon, where millions and millions of people, not just women, but many people around the world felt empathy toward her in her life.” He stated that he wanted to show a film that explored her identity and examines the choice that Diana made to forgo being the queen consort.

According to the director, through the movie viewers will discover how Diana, “wants to be the woman she was before she met Charles.” And that explains the title of the film, Spencer, which is Diana’s maiden name.

The movie will be a compact look at just a few days in the life of Princess Diana, circa 1992. According to the director the film will encompass, “Christmas Eve, Christmas and Boxing Day, three days, very contained. We get to understand what it is she wants and what she will do.”
