British royal family news divulges that Prince Harry’s abrupt departure from Sentebale raised eyebrows and now there is more drama adjacent to the African charity.
US Weekly claims that a man falsely claimed to be the brother of co-founder Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, and made headlines with his criticism.
Following this news, the outlet discovered that the man in question, Principal Chief Khoabane Theko, is not Seeiso’s brother and has zero connection to the controversial charity.
Sentebale Scandal Grows
On Wednesday, April 16 Theko told The Telegraph that Harry should have visited Lesotho “more often” following his abandonment of the monarchy.
For example, Harry’s 2024 visit to Lesotho was his first in six years, in contrast to four visits made between 2010 and 2015.
Theko went on to say that he was “perturbed” that Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, went to Africa in 2019 and skipped Lesotho. That was the time Meghan made the outsized claim that the nursery caught fire.
Meghan Claimed Archie’s African Nursery Was Unsafe
Theko had a lot to say and was quoted extensively before his true identity was revealed. At one point he claimed: “When [Sentebale] was launched, I remember his words quite vividly, because he was very strong in saying ‘my mother, [Princess Diana], this place, her passion about Africa … his loss of interest has totally killed the spirit of the Sentebale’s survival. I haven’t seen [Harry] since he got himself married.” Harry and Meghan married in 2018 and are parents to Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 3.
Prince Harry Lost Interest in Charity?
Harry and Seeiso developed the charity in 2006 to aid children in Lesotho living in poverty and with HIV/AIDS.
Last month Harry and Seeiso walked away from the charity they founded and subsequent chatter was swift and accusatory amid alleged tensions between them and chair of the board Sophie Chandauka.
Harry Shocked By Sentebale Departure
In a joint statement Harry and Seeiso said “It is devastating that the relationship between the charity’s trustees and the chair of the board broke down beyond repair, creating an untenable situation.”
“We are in shock that we have to do this, but we have a continued responsibility to Sentebale’s beneficiaries, so we will be sharing all of our concerns with the [U.K.] Charity Commission as to how this came about.”
In response Chandauka accused the charity of “poor governance, weak executive management [and] abuse of power.”
Hopefully Harry and the others can settle their issues so that the charity is able to do what it set out to do, which is assist helpless children not employ adults who act like helpless children.
