Many British commentators have been talking about Meghan Markle and a potential run for the White House during a future American election cycle. Whether this belief is true or not concerning the Duchess of Sussex remains to be seen considering the fact that there are many hurdles she and Prince Harry would both have to overcome in order for that to happen.
With that said, it’s clear that Meghan Markle has had an interest in politics since she was quite young. In fact, the new bombshell book, “Finding Freedom,” written by co-authors Omid Scobie and Carlolyn Durand goes into detail on this subject within its pages. For example, the book reveals that Meghan Markle first began exploring life in politics when she was a student at Northwestern University, which is a private research university in Evanston, Illinois.
Meghan Markle’s Frustrated Political Ambitions
In an interview with Marie Claire Magazine, Meghan talked about her political ambitions. The Duchess of Sussex said, “I knew I wanted to do acting, but I hated the idea of being this cliché – a girl from LA who decides to be an actress. I wanted more than that, and I had always loved politics, so I ended up changing my major completely, and double-majoring in theatre and international relations.”
While Meghan Markle may have wanted an entirely different career from the one she ended up pursuing, she apparently didn’t have the aptitude for the life in politics that she evidently craved. Finding Freedom relates that “Meghan took the Foreign Service Officer Test, a prerequisite for a job as a State Department officer. When she didn’t pass the highly competitive test, she was extremely disappointed. She wasn’t used to failing. It was a major blow to her confidence she had always tried to protect.”
Now, some might say that by becoming a British Royal, Meghan’s entered politics anyway … at least from a certain point of view. That’s despite the fact that the British Royal Family is traditionally non-partisan. Still, it’s well-known that social and economic issues are discussed by senior members of The Firm, such as Prince Charles and Prince Harry. The monarchy itself is slightly controversial within the U.K and so the very fact that Meghan became a senior royal might be considered a political act.
Meghan Markle: Political But Without Portfolio
In recent months people have watched as Meghan Markle has settled into life in Los Angeles following the ordeal known as “Megxit.” Many felt that it would be only natural for Meghan Markle to head right back into acting. After all, Meghan’s former career was quite lucrative and she was good at it.
However, Hollywood doesn’t seem to be banging down her door and Meghan doesn’t appear to be seeking roles. Instead, Meghan Markle has been pushing her face into the media in connection with social justice issues, movements, and organizations such as Black Lives Matter and gender issues.
Because of that, many feel Meghan’s end game is a run for the U.S. presidency at some point in the future. Yet, some don’t believe Meghan has a hope in hell when it comes to that. As Aubrey Hansen, a full-time royal & entertainment commentator at CCN suggested, “Looking at her cringeworthy BLM speech, which was influenced by Grey’s Anatomy, and her rambling, say-nothing diatribe for the Girl Up Summit, I would love to see Meghan debating real political matters live on television against experienced politicians.”
