It’s one thing to preach it, but it’s another thing to practice it, right? That’s what a lot of royalists on both sides of the pond are probably thinking about after Meghan Markle spoke about the importance of having family gatherings during the holiday season.

But here’s the thing: both Meghan and her husband Prince Harry are estranged from both sides of their families. It’s been several long years since either of them have had a Christmas gathering with the royals in the UK or even the Markles in the US.

In fact, Harry and Meghan have had pretty lonesome holidays with just their children, Archie and Lilibet, and Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland present at the dinner table.

Yet, during her latest holiday episode for her Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex preached about the importance of gathering with family members during the holidays.

This, despite the fact that her own father Thomas Markle is currently in the hospital in the Philippines after he had to get his leg amputated during an emergency surgery. Reports say that Meghan has not called her father directly, but has sent a hand-written letter instead.

If that weren’t enough, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are not even on speaking terms with the royal family back in the UK. While Harry has made some traction with his father, King Charles, he and Meghan have not sat at a dinner table with the royals since at least 2018.

That’s why so many critics are rolling their eyes at the Duchess of Sussex and her trying to pretend like she’s got her life together when everyone knows that’s not the case for her behind the scenes at all.

In order to preach about the importance of being with family during Christmas, Meghan’s got to do the same on her end, too. But whether or not that will ever happen one day remains to be seen.

So far Meghan Markle herself has not made any comments about the criticism she’s received, although at this point it’s doubtful that anything will be said. Watch this space for more.
