Meghan Markle Dropped Her Claim That the Mail On Sunday Exploited Her Father?

Meghan Markle Dropped Her Claim That the Mail On Sunday Exploited Her Father?Meghan Markle lost the first round of her legal battle against Associated Newspapers in May and now comes word that she is reportedly dropping from her lawsuit the claim that the Mail on Sunday “exploited” her father.

Doesn’t look good so good for litigious Me-me-Meghan does it?

Meghan’s lawsuit is being slowly disassembled?

Meghan is suing Associated Newspapers for breach of privacy over their publication of a letter she wrote to her estranged father, Thomas Markle.

Even though she has a widely publicized contentious history with her father, she actually claimed in the lawsuit that it was Associated Newspapers that had, “harassed and humiliated,” her father, and she claimed they, “deliberately manipulated and exploited a vulnerable and fragile individual.”

Thomas Markle claimed that he showed the letter to the Mail on Sunday in order to defend himself after Meghan’s friends talked to People magazine and allegedly misrepresented the contents of the letter.

What will Meghan do if parts of her lawsuit keep getting tossed out?

Meghan claims the publication of the letter breached her privacy, copyright and data protection rights but the judge struck out parts of her claim against the publisher, including allegations that it had acted dishonestly by leaving out certain parts of the letter.

Could their lawsuit against the Mail on Sunday become a PR disaster for Heghan?

Meghan’s lawyer is David Sherborne, who once represented Diana, Princess of Wales.

In a blow to Meghan, the defendant won the first High Court battle against her on May 1 when large chunks of her case were dismissed as “irrelevant” and claims the newspaper had a malicious “agenda” against her were dismissed, among other things. In effect Last month, the judge spoke in the publisher’s favor saying, “I do not consider the allegations in question go to the heart of the case.”

The judge added, “I have struck out all the passages attacked in the application notice. Some of the allegations are struck out as irrelevant to the purpose for which they are pleaded. Some are struck out on the further or alternative ground that they are inadequately detailed.”

Is Meghan’s case even viable and advisable?

The Daily Mail has reported that some of the UK’s top media lawyers considered Meghan’s case to be “overblown” and warned it would be cut back.

A trial could occur in late 2020 or early 2021. At that time Meghan and her father will be face-to-face for the first time in years, with each giving evidence against each other.
