Royal family rumors have previously swirled about Meghan Markle possessing political ambitions. And now the Duchess of Sussex just revealed another clue about her rumored interest in becoming a politician. But the hint also reveals Meghan’s political party.
Find out what Markle did that revealed her political interest. And see which political party might claim the Duchess of Sussex. Get all the details below.
Meghan Markle Drops Clue To Political Goals
The Duchess of Sussex and her husband Prince Harry recently created their Archewell Foundation. And the organization’s tax return documents just offered some interesting information about their political interests.
Seemingly confirming rumors that Meghan wants to get into politics, her foundation paid Michelle Obama’s former press chief over $100,000, according to Radar.
The Archewell Foundation’s tax return documents show that the Duchess of Sussex sent the payment to Katie McCormick Lelyveld’s public relations firm. Because that firm has focused on political candidates and campaigns in previous years, Meghan’s payment sparked a new round of rumors about her plans to run for a political office. And the payment also seems to show that Markle would run as a Democrat.
Lelyveld worked with former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama from 2007 to 2011. And the public relations specialist also served as a publicist for Hillary Clinton and former presidential candidate John Kerry. However, Meghan listed her payment via the Archewell foundation to the firm as “strategic support for social impact PR.”
Meghan Markle Running For A Political Office?
2020 marked the year that started rumors about Meghan running for a political office. During that year, Markle and Prince Harry met privately with California Governor Gavin Newsom. However, Governor Newsom’s office described the event as a “welcoming meeting” after the Duchess and Duke of Sussex bought their mansion in California.

But in 2021, Meghan took another step that sparked more rumors about her possible political ambitions. And she penned a letter to Congress asking that they pass a federally paid “parental leave program.” However, she and Harry have left out any mention of politics in writing up the Archewell Foundation’s mission statement.
“Archewell Foundation believes that compassion is the defining cultural force of the 21st century,” reads a memo that accompanied the organization’s public tax documents. “And, through its work, Archewell Foundation supports a growing community of partner organizations fueling systemic cultural change. Archewell Foundation listens to people and their communities, helps them tell their stories, puts real action behind its words, and spotlights a new generation of leadership.”
However, Meghan may need to redefine what it means to work if she does decide to run for a political office. Tax returns reveal that Markle and Harry only spend about an hour a week working with their multi-million-dollar foundation. But they have succeeded in raising millions, with Oprah Winfrey reportedly donating $10 million for her exclusive interview with the royal couple.
