Meghan Markle – Enjoys Retail Therapy Amid ‘Bimbo’ Backlash
Long before Meghan became the Duchess of Sussex, Markle took a job on season 2 of Deal Or No Deal. But that gig in 2006 as a briefcase girl apparently didn’t fulfill the 41-year-old’s desire for intellectual stimulation. And so Meghan quit the job, reported Page Six.
As she shared in a recent episode of her Archetypes podcast, Markle felt that her briefcase role turned her into an object. And she slammed the show as making her feel “reduced to a bimbo.” Because the gig offered so “little substance,” the now-Duchess of Sussex also complained that she felt “so much more than what was being objectified on the stage.”
However, those comments sparked an immediate backlash. And so Meghan headed out for lunch and shopping therapy with a friend. The Duchess of Sussex stunned in a $595 strapless green Malia Mills jumpsuit and $128 Panama hat from Cuyana. Markle also spent some time in a gourmet food boutique, Pierre La Fond in Montecito, California.
Whoopi Goldberg – And Briefcase Models Blast Meghan Markle
After the Duchess of Sussex aired her “bimbo” grievances on her Archetypes podcast, her complaints went viral. And Meghan’s single positive remark didn’t seem to help. Markle did state that at the time, she felt “really grateful” to get a job that would help pay her bills. But Meghan’s other slams against her role annoyed multiple listeners, including Whoopi Goldberg.
“I ended up quitting the show. I was so much more than what was being objectified on the stage,” said Markle in a much-quoted statement. And Whoopi blasted the Duchess of Sussex for complaining.
Taking on Meghan during an episode of The View, the 66-year-old talk show host challenged Meghan’s remarks. “When you’re a performer, you take the gig,” pointed out Whoopi. “Sometimes, you’re in a Bozo suit, sometimes you got a big nose, and this is just the way it is. We’re not journalists.” And Goldberg pointed out that as “actors,” such gigs help to “get to another place.”
Markle also infuriated other former Deal Or No Deal briefcase girls. Both model Donna Feldman and Real Housewives Of Atlanta star Claudia Jordan made their frustration clear. And Whoopi questioned why Meghan seemed surprised by the role. As the talk show host noted, Markle knew what the role involved.
